In this atmospheric work, Mackenzie depicts a powerful symbol of emotion, a heart being gently pulled forward through shifting sandbanks, as though guided by an unseen force toward open space and possibility.
Medium: Pastel
Dimensions: 30″ x 30″
Artwork: Original
Above, a vast sky unfolds in rich dusk tones, filled with delicate, layered cloud detail that adds depth, movement, and a sense of quiet drama. The transition of light across the sky suggests the passing of time, as day softens into evening, reinforcing themes of reflection, change, and emotional transition.
The landscape below feels both grounding and uncertain, with the textured sandbanks creating a sense of passage an in-between space where movement is not always smooth, but deeply meaningful. The heart, central to the composition, becomes a vessel of emotion and intention, carried forward despite resistance.
For collectors, this original pastel offers a profoundly expressive and contemplative piece. Every mark of pigment carries the immediacy of Mackenzie’s hand, giving the work a raw emotional authenticity that cannot be replicated.
To Freedom is a poignant and uplifting piece full of hope, and the quiet strength found in letting go.
