The London Elephant Parade bursts into life on May 22nd with Mackenzie Thorpe and other well-known artists and celebrities, personally showing their decorated elephants. Why not visit Mackenzie and his elephant, Maureen, outside the National Theatre, London between 12noon and 2pm and find out how he and the other artists are hoping to raise over £1 million which will benefit the Asian elephant.
The Elephant Parade is the leading charity highlighting the crisis facing the endangered Asian elephant. By organising this large scale outdoor Art Exhibition of baby elephant sculptures decorated by famous artists, it is hoped over £1 million will be raised when a select number will be auctioned at Sotheby’s at the end of June and greater awareness and support achieved.
Mackenzie’s elephant is named after his mother, Maureen and he would be delighted if you wanted to pop by the National Theatre on 22nd May to say hello to them both personally. Thereafter the elephants will have homes throughout May and June outside various venues and landmarks across London.
Mackenzie Thorpe’s exhibition in Middlesbrough, One Man’s Journey, commemorates 240 years since the explorer Captain James Cook first landed in Australia.
The exhibition at The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Middlesbrough, will be opened to the public from Saturday 17th April the show highlights the links between Middlesbrough, Australia and Captain Cook.
Throughout the collection Mackenzie highlights the three links between Middlesbrough, Australia and Captain Cook. Middlesbrough was not just the birthplace for Mackenzie but also for Captain James Cook and throughout Mackenzie’s childhood he was aware of the associations.
With this in mind the exhibition is filled with recognisable Northern imagery such as 'Waiting for me Dad' as well as stunning Australian landscapes such as 'Stranded in Tribulation'.
