A chance conversation led to a sizeable donation to Richmond's Friary Hospital, when pet shop owner John Meynell, told Mackenzie about the outstanding care his mother had received from the hospital staff during her illness. John was so grateful he wanted to purchase a picture from Mackenzie for the hospital, however Mackenzie was so touched by John’s story he proposed creating an original piece to be hung in the hospital lobby for all to enjoy, where it remains today. The work, entitled Vale over Yorkshire, was unveiled by William Hague and in addition a print was made of the hugely popular image which helped raise funds for the Friary Hospital. A raffle of the print was won by Debbie Hyatt and she was presented with the picture by Sister Doris Walker at Arthaus.

Now I know my destiny
I look back on my life
No longer with anger
In pain
Inside all my darkness
I see the riches of my
Imagination and discovery
The culture
The strength
The wonderment
In a world deprived of colour
I see an abundance of light

Sarah, a great customer of ours amused us all with her story of 'Golden Sheep’. She was thrilled when she got the print ... with the accompanying Golden Sheep, bottle of beer. Her husband was also very happy when on New Years day, gagging for a beer he stumbled across it. She caught him in the nick of time trying to swig from her prized bottle. Seeing as The Queen has the same image in the royal collection do you think Prince Phillip may also have been prevented from enjoying a drop of this very special amber nectar?

Have you got a question for Mackenzie?

Dominic Holland author and comedian asked Mackenzie if he would draw a book cover for his forthcoming novel. Mackenzie isn't a book illustrator but as ever came up trumps with the
fantastic image Millie and Mitch sitting back to back. We had the original
in the window at Arthaus and were overwhelmed with the request to buy it
followed by

"Is it going to be a print?" And "Is it going to be a card!!"

When we sold it the proud owners were really pleased with their purchase and also with their signed copy of the book.  So the question really is when is it coming out as a print?

At Arthaus we get asked the same thing everyday "can I have your job!!"

Mackenzie fans just want to work here- even for free!

So once again we have thrown open our doors and invited the youth of Richmond to take a step into the Art World of the very talented Mackenzie Thorpe.

Our team take work experience seriously and endeavour to give a broad view of the workplace so without a do- we hot footed it up to Richmond school and set about working with them and have even thought about setting up a modern apprentice scheme so stay tuned....

Unrolling artwork - if you aquire artwork that has been rolled and placed in a shipping tube for convenience, do not use the tube for long term storage.  Paints and inks can set in a rolled position and may develop cracks if forced flat again.  Care should be taken when unrolling artwork, even when only rolled for a few days.  Let the artwork "relax" for several hours (or even days in cases where the inks are especially old or thick).  Don't try to press down the corners immediately.  Begin to flatten the work gently from the midpoint of the roll, placing weights cautiously on either side of the midpoint at the top and bottom edges (do not scratch or soil the surface), and gradually move the weights symmetrically out towards the ends - slowly - to allow the resistance to fade.  If in doubt consult your framer.

Are you big enough----are you sure? We have a complete set of the Game of life prints to go on loan to your establishment. The Number 7 set is already framed and presently housed in Middlesbrough Football Club. At the end of the season we will sign (on loan) to an organisation who can tell us why they think they should be chosen to proudly hang the fantastic football work on their walls.

So, are you a football club or a charity or a restaurant or a school perhaps? Well if you fancy the chance of showing your public a great collection of work that reflects emotions, humour and the nostalgia of days gone by, let us know.
